Dayglow Quilt

I'm very excited to be sharing Dayglow with you today. This quilt pattern first appeared in issue 86 of Love Patchwork & Quilting and will be available in my pattern shop as a standalone pattern soon. In the meantime, there are copies of issue 86 available in my shop here.

Dayglow is a very beginner-friendly pattern that uses large blocks and ombre gradients for a great visual effect.

Colour choices

The colour gradient of pinks, peaches and yellows in the Dayglow quilt reminds me of a jar of sweets or a big bowl of all the best ice cream flavours. The fabrics used in this sample are Kona solids in Silver, Meringue, Banana, Daffodil, Corn Yellow, School Bus, Mango, Nectarine, Salmon, Creamsicle, Peach, Primrose, Bubblegum, Melon.

Dayglow would look great in just about any gradient and combination right across the colour wheel. Or how about a two-tone version, or even in black and white for a cool monochromatic look. 

Quilting notes

I quilted this Dayglow quilt very minimally. I'm a big fan of straight line quilting and love the bold, geometric look it gives a quilt. I outlined all the chevrons, then extended the quilting lines across the grey background. I had originally planned on adding more detail by filling in all the stripes with small squiggles and figure 8s.

Once it was all outlined, though, I decided that I liked that simple look better than the fussy one I had been going for, and that it was going to work much better with the simple, geometric look of the pattern itself.
