Sew Much Fun Blog Tour - Sewing Machine

Are you ready to sew? I have a fun little Sewing Machine quilt block for you today! This foundation paper pieced quilt block is free for you to download, and is part of the Sew Much Fun blog tour.

Each week a new pattern is released by a different designer (although there are a few doubles), for a collection of 52 patterns over the course of a year. Make sure to check the Blog Hop HQ every week to collect them all!

I've modelled this Sewing Machine quilt block after my own Bernina Aurora 440QE, but of course had to make a few modifications to make it work as a 6 inch foundation paper pieced quilt pattern. If you're also a proud Bernina owner, my friend Henrik of Herrschaftenmüller designed an awesome Bernina sewing machine block a couple of years ago. It's also foundation paper pieced, and available in his Etsy shop here.

This is a 6" block (6.5" including the seam allowance), so there are a few skinny bits to deal with, especially around the foot, but I've deliberately kept most pieces as large as possible. I'd recommend this block for adventurous beginners, or more advanced FPPers. If you are neither of those, or simply dislike fiddly bits, you can also easily scale this up by enlarging the templates on a photocopier. Copying the templates at 200% will produce a 12" block, and using a 150% scale will make it a 9" block.

I made my own block in the same colours I used for the Bobbins quilt block I designed for week 12, but here are a few mockups to inspire you for your own colouring. The Sewing Machine block pattern comes with a colouring sheet so you can print that out as many times as you like and try out a bunch of different colour ideas for yourself, too.
