Raise The Bar - the Savanna Sunset baby quilt
I'm excited to finally share this Raise The Bar baby quilt I made a little while ago. It's been sitting around, waiting to be photographed and I've finally had some time to do that.
Beginner-friendly modern quilt pattern
Raise The Bar is a modern big block quilt that is very straightforward to put together, and rather addicting. It's a beginner-friendly pattern with detailed step-by-step instructions and tons of illustrations for the visual learner.
Big block quilt
There is something very satisfying about a big block quilt that makes me want to make more and more of them. This giant Courthouse Steps block comes together so easily, you can watch it grow in front of your eyes with every added strip. I think that's the fun and beauty in this style of quilt, it plays to the "instant" gratification part of our brain because you're working on the whole quilt at once, not on individual blocks with lots of small pieces.
Bar Quilts pattern series
Raise The Bar is the second pattern in the Bar Quilts series and comes in three sizes - this baby quilt, a throw size and a pillow size that also works well as a wall hanging.
Savanna Sunset fabric
It's perfect for showing off some showstopping feature fabrics, or using up leftovers from another project that may not have been enough to make a whole quilt otherwise. I used up the leftovers from my Spinning Top baby quilt to make what is almost a mirror image quilt.
Savanna Sunset is a fabric collection designed by Tati Abaurre for Figo Fabrics. Her first collection with Figo, Savanna Sunset was inspired by none other than Tati’s two and a half year old son, Leo! The collection was created around a lion pattern she designed to celebrate his first birthday. It is both modern and sweet, using hand drawn elements along with watercolor details. Savanna Sunset was created with babies and younger kids in mind, designed to be mostly gender neutral using soft earthy pastel tones inspired by the colors of the sunset.
Concentric circles quilt design
Because I was mirroring the Spinning Top baby quilt to some degree, I wanted to do a similar quilt design on this one. I had done a spiral on the Spinning Top, so for Raise The Bar I decided on concentric circles.
I marked my center circle with the bottom of a cookie tin and then used the guide bars on my walking foot to keep a consistent distance between the circles. I made a little reel for Instagram showing how I did it, if you'd like to go have a look.
Raise The Bar is available in the pattern shop.
