French Macaron Quilt Block

May I introduce you to one of my favourite sweet treats, the macaron? It's Quilt Block Mania week again and we're having tea time with a French Macaron quilt block. I guess the macaron isn't exactly traditional tea time fare, but can't you just picture one of those lovely trays of little sweets with some colourful and delicious macarons on it?

Macarons are also one of those things I can't miss whenever we go back home to Switzerland. One of the more famous confectioners in Zurich makes smaller versions of them in all sorts of flavours and colours, and I can't visit without having a little sample. When I was in university and commuting to Zurich everyday, I would sometimes buy myself one or two for the train ride home after a rough day, or as a special treat to enjoy by the lake if we had some unexpected time off. Ah, memory lane...

I'm going back to simple block designs with this French Macaron quilt block. After the puffin head last month, this one will be a quick and easy make, with barely anything small to piece, and only three sections. You may find them quick enough to make a whole tea tray's worth in every flavour ;-)

How about something fruity, like strawberry, or raspberry? Or maybe even lemon?

Or classic chocolate and vanilla flavours?

There are pistachio ones at the confectioner's in Zurich, too. They're not my personal favourite, but I love the colour.

I wonder if lavender ones exist, too?

  • Hi Beverly, the signup form is right below the purple macaron picture. If it doesn’t show up, make sure you don’t have any ad blockers or popup blockers installed that may interfere with it showing up.

  • Cute pattern! I’d love to get it, but no where to sign up. :)

  • Hi Sheryl,
I‘m not sure where the problem is but I‘ll look into it and contact you via email.

  • I have sent my email to receive your darling macaron block about a dozen times now. Nothing happens. I received every block but yours and Tea Time Cakes from Quilt Fabrication. I even set up an account on your website in hopes that would work; still nothing.

  • Hi there, Not sure if the problem is on my end or yours, but I am not receiving your free macaron pattern. I have signed up over 1/2 dozen times and still I don’t receive it, I really love the block, and I think by itself it would make an adorable quilt!
