December Colour Inspiration
I'm in the mood for Christmas, so my December inspiration is Vintage Christmas. I love the fun colours found in vintage Christmas ornaments, so I tried to replicate that with the colours I chose for this month's inspiration.
December colour palette
This month's Kona solids colours are Jungle, Olive, Wasabi, Aruba, Candy Pink, and Cardinal.
December quilt mockups
Here are some of my patterns all in their vintage Christmas finery.
First up is a Christmas pattern, Holiday Spirit. This one was a natural choice to mock up in Christmas colours, and I love how it turned out all vintage looking. Holiday Spirit is a fun pattern that can be done as a throw size quilt as shown, or you can use each of the words on their own as a table runner or wall hanging. The pattern is an easy one and would make a quick project if you wanted to start something now.
Festive Forest was also designed as a Christmas pattern, but this one works just as well all year round, especially when it's done in these fun colour. It's a foundation paper pieced pattern that has templates to make the blocks in two sizes, so you can use them for other fun and quick gift ideas as well. These little gift bags are super cute, the small blocks can also be made into a pillow, or you could shrink the pattern even more and make a tree ornament like this one. Of course, mug rugs, pot holders etc. are also options.
My original Festive Forest sample had a different background for each tree, so I replicated that here with the second mockup, by using slightly darker or lighter tones of the colours that were used in the trees.
Naturally, you don't have to use just Christmas or holiday themed patterns to use this vintage colourway. Although Spinning Top (above) could easily pass as a Christmas bauble.
Both Spinning Top and Raise The Bar (below) work really well in these colours as well. To turn them into real statement pieces, use the pillow size to make a quick and fun table topper for your holiday dinner.
I hope these mockups inspired you to tackle a quick holiday project for this year, or maybe keep them tucked away and get a head start on a holiday quilt to display next year.
