Victorian Tiles – the Breeze version

Have you ever seen those tiled entries and hallways in Victorian homes? I love those geometric floor tiles and this quilt pays hommage to that. It’s published in Make Modern magazine’s issue 35, which hit the virtual newsstands as I am writing this post. This pattern is a repeat block design that’s set on point. It’s a simple block to construct and the pattern includes instructions for time-saving techniques such as 4-at-a-time flying geese. The fabrics used in this sample are from the Breeze collection by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic for Moda. Having the tone-on-tone prints adds interest up close, but lets the primary and secondary patterns shine without…

Dayglow – in Love Patchwork & Quilting issue 86

I’m so excited to finally share this quilt. It was made and sent off to Love Patchwork & Quilting almost 5 months ago and I haven’t been able to say anything about it until now. Well, I did share the cover photo with my mum and best quilty friend when I got it, because I couldn’t not tell someone 😉 But, issue 86 is out now! They’re not able to ship any paper issues internationally at this point, due to the pandemic lockdown measures affecting Royal Mail, but the magazine is still available as a digital issue through Zinio, Apple News, Google Play or the Love Patchwork & Quilting app…

    How to Waterproof a Quilt

A couple of summers ago I made myself a waterproof quilt because I was spending many evenings every week at the soccer fields with my kids, and while bringing folding chairs was an ok option, I kept forgetting to pack them when we had to leave in a hurry. So I decided I was going to make a quilt that I could carry around easily and leave in the car all the time. A couple of rainy practices later, I decided that it needed to be a *waterproof* quilt. The most recent issue of Make Modern magazine, Issue 27, included a pattern and tutorial from me about how to make…

    Canadian Diamonds Pattern

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend… This pattern started with this mushroom fabric and some random half-square triangles that I decided to cut again and see what would happen. I quickly got an idea for a layout and started cutting the rest of the fabric with this idea in mind. This first, mushroomy, version of the quilt was made in our temporary accommodations, a school portable turned into a cottage of sorts on my in-laws’ property, while we were waiting for our new house to be finished. We had most of our things packed away, with the exception of clothes and other important bits, and of course my…

    Tumbled Love Table Runner

I have a new pattern available for you, just in time for Valentine’s Day!It’s a great little project to use up your small scraps, and comes together quite quickly, too. I’m in love with the scrappy look of the hearts! This one I just had to make in pinks, because I’ve been itching to use up all my lovely pink scraps, but also because my daughter informed me that hearts for Valentine’s Day always need to be pink. Who am I to argue with that logic? 😉Of course, this would look great in any colour, and I’m already plotting another one in blue, or possibly yellow. Just the right kind…

    Flocks of Colour

This fun rainbow splash of colour is my first ever published pattern, Flocks of Colour. It originally featured in Make Modern magazine’s issue 19 and is the pattern that started it all, so to speak. I used a rainbow of prints for the flying geese, and because I love bold pops of colour, I placed them on a dark blue background for maximum impact. This quilt is a lovely quick project that can easily be scaled up or down to even more sizes by a more advanced quilter, but the pattern includes instructions for both baby and throw sizes to get you started. As you can see from these pictures,…
